I use barre, open and power chords..
Mike isn't "a powerchord guy", he simply mixes open- with powerchords, that's all. Most common punk songs are played with power chords only.
And yea, wolfpits knows the theories.

We should pool some pentatonic licks, that's more interesting than powerchords. "Play solos like Ness"
or something like that.

by the way
Meanwhile I figured out the chords for charmed life

I think there's enough guitar players here, we should make some kind of sub-furum if you will that's for guitar players/ musicians, make tab for all of the songs we like for play and hear... I've been on other guitar furums, but its hard to find people who like to play the same music as me.

Next time one of you is at a show try to tab out the new song, I got the basic rythum, but I cant remember the chords for the chorus... Maybe if we get a boot we can try to tab out the solo's...

Just an idea!!!

Your right big ballz, it is kinda a stupid question. It's not really a personal preference so much as a matter of funcionality. Good guitar players will have as much as possible in their arsenal so they can play anything. "power" chords are just abbreviated "barr" chords anyways; you guys know that right? A power chord is just the root and fifth of a triad and when you form the traditional barr chord, the root/5th or the root/5th/root just happens to be conveniently on the first 2 or 3 strings. by playing a power chord instead of a barr chord, your eliminating the root/3rd/5th of a triad played on the higher strings. The result is a heavier, more meaty sound.

And Big Ballz is right, you cant play minor chords, 7 chords, etc, because by defenition, a power chord is just the root and the 5th. So in other words, if you want to play the blues or rockabilly learn the different variations of barr chords completely.

I guess the questions is how many fingers do you use in you chord, I personally use 2 the index finger the hold down the root note and my pinky to hold the other 2 notes. A proper G barre chords consists of 4 notes, the root note G, D, G again and B doesn't matter of its an E barre or A barre and that?s the difference between and power chords and a barre, a power chords only consist of two maybe 3 notes to a chord, with a barre you need all four notes to make the chord...

That's the sweet thing about Barres, you can make them 7th chords 9th chords Minors and there all movable throughout the fret board...

Here another cool little trick that most of you already use, but whatever the movable F barre chord, just like other barres you use the root note to find out what chord it is and your already in position to though out solo notes over the chord, very rockabilly way of playing, Setzer fingerpick of that shit...
